Larry Marietta, Conductor, is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco City Chorus and Music Director for San Francisco’s Old First Presbyterian Church. He was also former Music Program Director of the First Congregational Church of Berkeley. On the Life Long Learning music faculty of Contra Costa Community College, he taught Introduction to Opera for 6 years. He continues to teach this class on a volunteer basis as part of the Community Outreach Ministry of Christ Lutheran Church in El Cerrito. A Bay Area resident since 1996, he maintains an active schedule as a voice teacher, vocal coach, adjudicator, and lecturer. 

With degrees in Conducting and Organ and Vocal Performance, he has served on the voice and keyboard faculties of Carnegie Mellon (Guest Artist Lecturer) and West Virginia Universities (Piano/Organ; adjunct music faculty, Preparatory Department), and Washington & Jefferson (Director of Choral Activities), Chatham (College Organist), and Waynesburg Colleges (Piano/Organ; adjunct music faculty). His choral conducting studies include such distinguished teachers as Robert Fountain, Paul Salamunovich, Ann Jones, Margaret Hawkins, Robert Page, and Alan Harler.

A San Francisco Classical Voice review applauded his “evocative and delicately balanced piano accompaniments,” and he was lauded in print by the Pittsburgh Concert Society for his “sensitive accompaniments, effectively capturing the dramatic essence of each song.” Mr. Marietta has appeared as a featured accompanist for the Aspen Music Festival, Metropolitan Opera Young Artists, Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Pops, and numerous regional opera theaters and community choruses. He has had the privilege of twice performing in Davies Symphony Hall with the San Francisco Choral Society, Bob Geary, Conductor. 

A featured organ recitalist throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as in England, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, and France, he has performed with renowned conductors, including Kent Nagano, André Previn, Lorin Maazel, Marvin Hamlisch, and Dave Brubeck. Under the baton of the composer, he was the featured soloist for the Mid-Atlantic premiere of Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra.

Choral conducting credits include the Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble (Pittsburgh Symphony), Pittsburgh’s Benedum Orchestra, the Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh, Junior/Senior High School County, District, Honors and Regional Choir Festivals, and Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Conventions. Bay Area conducting performances have included the Verdi, Mozart, Fauré, Brahms, and Duruflé Requiems; Händel’s Messiah, Judas Maccabaeus, Israel in Egypt, Semele, and Samson; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Die erste Walpurgisnacht, and Paulus; Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana; Louis Vierne’s Messe Solennelle (for chorus, organ and harmonium); Poulenc’s Gloria; and J.S. Bach’s Magnificat, and Cantatas #51, 78, 82 and 106.
