Bass Sectional - at Old First

10 - 11:30 am rehearsal

WHERE ~  OLD FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH1751 SACRAMENTO STREET, at the corner of Sacramento and Van Ness.

This location is convenient to the 47 or 49 Van Ness bus lines, the 19 Polk bus, or the cable car stop at California and Van Ness. If you prefer to drive, please see garage instructions below. Carpooling is strongly recommended.  Street parking is also recommended if you have time to find it, but note parking restrictions.

~ DIRECTIONS TO THE OLD FIRST PARKING GARAGE ~  The garage is on Sacramento Street, which is one-way between Polk and Van Ness (heading toward Van Ness).  Driving south on Polk, turn right on Sacramento. Driving north on Polk, turn left onto Sacramento. Look for the yellow and blue “OLD FIRST PARKING GARAGE” sign on your left. Try to get to the Parking Garage 15 minutes before rehearsal begins.

~ ABOUT PARKING ~  This is a valet parking garage. Enter the garage, wait for the garage attendant, and leave your car key in the ignition. The attendant will give you the parking stub you will need to retrieve your car. In order to get free parking, be sure to pick up a parking sticker directly from Larry or Edie at the rehearsal. Please be kind to the Parking Garage valets and tip them when you leave. A $1 or more tip is always appreciated.

~ ABOUT THE ELEVATOR DOORS ON SACRAMENTO ST ~  Our special entrance to the church (notthe main entrance) is on Sacramento St., halfway between the parking garage and Van Ness Ave. There is a wooden double door, behind which is hidden an elevator entrance. Avoid the center glass doors closer to Van Ness as there are often other groups gathered there, for example people in line for the food bank.

~ GETTING IN ~ There should be someone outside the elevator door assisting entry until the time rehearsal begins. If you can, be a volunteer for door duty: one person every 15 minutes is ideal, starting a half hour before until a half hour after rehearsal begins. That way no one person misses too much.  It can still happen that no one is at the elevator entrance and the double wooden doors are locked, particularly if you are running late. Be sure to have backup phone numbers of 3-4 others in your section who have your name in their cell phones in advance, so if one person doesn’t answer, someone else might, they will see who it is from and not reject it as spam...Ride the elevator to the 3rdfloor; the elevator will be set to only go up to the 3rd floor. The location of this rehearsal is the choir room: you are there.

Service for Maria Solis

  • First Unitarian Universalist Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Service is at 1 pm; the Call Time is 12 noon, in Rear Balcony Choir Loft—where you can see the organ pipes if you go into the Sanctuary. The entrance is on the right, immediately after entering the Sanctuary from the Main Lobby, Long winding staircase: take your time. Top of the Staircase: Go through the RIGHT HAND DOOR. Be very careful negotiating the steps of the choir loft

We will combine forces with the Unitarian Universalist Choir, and their director Mark Sumner. He and Larry have agreed to combine our small vocal forces in order to offer a much better tribute to Maria.  We'll be doing the Lacrymosa from the Mozart Requiem, and the Sanctus from the Lord Nelson Mass.

Suggested Dress: muted colors or black.

Reception: Maria’s family asks attendees at the service to bring food or flowers to the reception.

Parking

  1. Street parking on Franklin Street: metered, be careful of time limits. UU Underground Parking Garage: not recommended because of different church functions happening at the same time. However, if you try it, get in FAR LEFT LANE of Starr King Street (curved 1-way street between Gough and Franklin). Entrance almost at Franklin Street: may seem like you missed it. TURN LEFT into descending driveway, STOP just before the gate (it may seem like you’re too close, but you’re not). GATE will swing out; you drive in…and good luck.

  2. St. Mary’s Cathedral [corner of Gough and Geary; 1 block from the UU]. TURN RIGHT from Geary onto Gough Street, which is One-Way, Immediately get in RIGHT HAND LANE: there are 2 entrances, Be alert for tour buses, reserved spots and people walking

  3. ABM Parking Lot: PAID Parking. Entrance on Gough Street from LEFT HAND LANE, across from St. Mary’s.
